This past weekend was the 2013 Texas Style Council Conference. Speakers, staff, sponsors, volunteers and ~400 attendees gathered for 3 days of mingling, workshops and fun in downtown Austin. If you’ve been a blog follower for awhile, you may remember I attended this conference last year – my very first and very intimidating/overwhelming blog conference experience. I’m happy to say this year was a million times more fun and useful! Partly because I knew more what to expect and had been working on my shyness factor; partly because this year covered ALL SORTS of business/blog/DIY topics, not just fashion, and in a more interactive way (workshops instead of panels); and partly because this year was WAY less claustrophobic because the staff scored a great space. It might also have helped that it was bright and sunny and warm, not cold and rainy and March. What can I say, I’m a summer creature. 🙂
Anyway, today I’m doing a [photo-heavy] recap and What I Wore rolled into one. It’s pretty long, so catch the jump after this first photo.
Today I’m sharing 3 ways to wear a solid-colored basic maxi dress. Maxi dresses are one of my favorite things to wear during the summer because they are SUPER comfortable, and there are lots out there with stripes and color blocking and prints. But sometimes a plain maxi is the easiest to just throw on and go. You can layer on different accessories to mix it up, and completely change the look of the outfit. Below are 3 ways to do so, using three different colored maxi dresses as the base: Click to embiggen and see shopping links. Yeah, […]
This is what I wore yesterday. It’s maybe a little on the kooky side, but it’s comfy and I ended up loving it. Bonus is that every single clothing item here was bought at a super sale price. The dress is a nice light t-shirt like material, and the tights are heavier, so it all evens out and worked both for the 50-degree morning and the 80-degree afternoon. I think the dress is a tad too short for me to wear comfortably without tights, but since tights are the order of the day this time of year it’s not a […]
This is what I wore yesterday. Yes, it’s still sunny and 80 degrees here – I know, I’m amazed, too. November! This is my perfect weather, though. Not too cold, not too hot, not dreary. If I could just freeze the weather line-up at this I would (with the occasional rainstorm so, you know, we don’t get a drought). It’s going to be a bit of a system shock when we head up to Ohio for Thanksgiving; they’ve already had snow. I love this dress. I love the color, the fact that’s it’s super-soft-comfy jersey, and -of course- its twirlability. […]
Once upon a time there was a girl who went to a clothing swap and was lucky enough to find a gorgeous dress in her size. She loved the dress… …until she got it home and tried it on fully and noticed a problem. She decided to salvage what she could of this garment and turn it into a shirt. And so she did. Any interesting items you’ve salvaged lately, readers?
