What I Wore: Black Floral Green

first

Today’s indoor shoot brought to you by rainy-cloudy-thundery skies the last 2 days. So this is what I am, in fact, wearing this exact moment. I’m even sitting in that exact chair below (yes, you get a glimpse into my glamorous office decor, haha). I wasn’t sure about bright kelly green jeans at first, but there’s just something so perfect about this color paired with black and white that they’ve won me over. It helps that this pair is super comfortable, too.

So, life lately: rain; work; Sims 3; reading; paychecks still frustratingly out in the ether instead of in my PO box. Yeah. And the two I’ve been expecting the past few days are from two clients who usually pay very promptly. They’re not technically overdue quite yet, but when a client repeatedly pays promptly (like I have the check 2 days after invoicing promptly) you get used to that and expect that. More to the point, my bank account expects that. The postal service doesn’t take a holiday for Easter, so it’s not like service was interrupted. Hmph. I really hope they show up tomorrow morning, because I need to go to the grocery store. Ian’s got date night dinner covered tonight, but groceries/home meals are usually my thing and we are flat out of make-able things.

That’s not to say things are dire. Far from it. I have more than enough coming in to cover my expenses, it’s just that timing everything is always a balancing act. I hate to have to use my credit cards or pull money out of savings, because those are two areas I’m really working on this year (eliminating the first, growing the second). And I know everything will be fine, it’s just these thin days waiting for money stress me out.

Whew. Ok. End stressy rant. To lighten the mood, scroll down for adorable puppy.

Fellow self-employed people, do you have the same juggling act with your finances?

What I Wore: Forest Chambray

So named because of the forest green of this dress and the chambray top over it, of course. Not because it’s particularly appropriate for frolicking in a forest (though I don’t think it’d fare too badly). This is what I wore on Monday. It was a day for errands, house chores, and a bit of work (not too much of this last, actually – it was a slow day). The comfy dress + knotted top combo has become one of my staples, I think. It’s so easy, yet still comfy and put-together looking. And yes. This necklace, again. Because […]

What I Wore: the 4th

Today is not only our nation’s birthday (happy 4th!), but also the birthday of my little furkid. Happy 2nd birthday, Sienna! 🙂 I hope you enjoyed the bits of bacon last night, and the peanut butter goodies and new toy you get today.   My version of red, white, and blue. I’m not usually one to color coordinate with holidays, but I just recently got this dress in a swap and thought it was perfect for the occasion. Color AND weather appropriate, and a nice length as well. So this is what I’m wearing around today as we spoil our […]

What I Wore: Purple & Puppy

Spring seems to have arrived full force in Austin. My flowers are starting to come out, the weather is balmy if occasionally rainy, the days are longer. All of this means one thing: dress season! I’m excited to finally be able to wear all the shorter dresses I’ve been collecting without having to layer like crazy with tights or cardigans or whatnot. So today brings you a simple outfit post in that spirit. Who says an outfit post needs shoes? Lol. It was sporadically raining today, so I did this shoot inside, up in our loft, which I call the […]

Friday Favorites: A Dog Story

So, this is the story all about how I went from being a cat person, to a verified dog mama. Once upon a time in Florida there was a dog named Levi. He lived with my sister, Marisa. He had personality to spare, was well-behaved, and easy to train. He was also pretty darn cute, wasn’t slobbery, and upon spending a vacation there I dubbed him The Best Dog Ever. I had traditionally been a cat person, so this was a pretty big deal. I went back to Texas, and he remained cute and the best dog ever. Fast forward […]

Friday Favorites: Working from Home

This week’s Friday Favorite post will be a bit scanty, folks. I’ve been dealing with a bad head cold all week – the kind that leaves you exhausted just by standing up long enough to take a shower. But between the [lots of] napping, soups, citrus, and meds, I’ve still managed to keep on top of my freelance work, just by dint of working during the few energy bursts, and resting when I need to. This is just another example of why it rocks to work from home. I literally didn’t get out of pajamas all day yesterday, but still […]

Friday Favorites: Cuddly Puppies

I’m pretty low on energy today, and I think I’m getting sick. It would be nice to curl up in bed with my boyfriend, but he doesn’t get back from Korea for another week. Amazingly, our puppy Sienna (who is usually far too full of energy to cuddle for more than 5 minutes) has stepped up. She took a nap with me for a whole hour today! In honor of this milestone, cuddly puppies are today’s favorite.
