Meet Mia

Today I want to introduce you to Mia, one of my super cool sponsors for this month and a fellow Austinite (at least sometimes)! Come get to know her. 🙂

Mia Moore

Come say hi: Blog | Twitter

Hi everyone! My name is Mia and I blog over at my personal domain, www.miamoore.net. I mostly talk about DIY projects, what I’ve been wearing, what I’ve been up to, and my hobbies, like hooping and cosplay! I’m a senior in college studying Digital Media Marketing — basically, I’m very passionate about social media and how it can shape a company. I think my major is the coolest and I’m really excited to see where it takes me.

What inspired you to start blogging?
I love other blogs and have followed them for years, but never thought I was interesting enough to have my own. Finally I decided to start it up, partially as a personal development project and partially for fun, and I’ve had a really wonderful time so far! I’m still finding my voice, but the journey is the fun part to me.

What does it mean to be a Lolita (I assume in this case it doesn’t mean a young girl being taken sexual advantage of, like the book), and how did you get introduced to it?
Lolita fashion is a Japanese street fashion, which draws from Rococo-period clothing from Europe. It has absolutely nothing to do with the book of the same name! The name in Japanese refers to the innocent doll look, not anything sexualized. I was introduced to it many, many years ago through stumbling on it online, and I just thought it was so pretty! I don’t often have a chance to dress up, but when I do, I am usually meeting with local Lolita groups, which are sort of like a fashion club. We get together and go shopping, sing karaoke, go to local events, and so on.

It sounds like Austin was a temporary home for you this summer; where do you call home normally? Will you be coming back to Austin?
Austin is my forever-home, because it’s the city that speaks to me! I really feel home when I’m there and I was lucky to spend the summer there with my internship. During the school year, I call Dallas home, and originally, I’m from the Houston area. I’m Texan, through and through!

Walk us through a typical day in the life of Mia:
On an average day, I will wake up, beg myself to go running, run, and then get ready for the day. I always feel more accomplished if I run first thing in the morning. Then, I go to classes and work, though not always in that order, from 9 am – 5 pm. Afterwards, depending on the day, I’ll meet up with a club, my sorority sisters, group project members, a study group, or friends to work on something or hang out. I don’t typically get home until late at night! If I have spare time, you can find me online, working on blog stuff, hooping, making dinner, or playing with my cat.

Weekends are much more free for me! I don’t work, have classes, or typically schedule commitments, so I work on personal projects and homework, sleep in, and go on adventures.

When do you feel most creative? (time of day, specific activity, etc.)
I don’t see myself as a creative person, so cultivating creative hobbies is really important to me! It helps me de-stress, and it’s nice to have some hobbies that aren’t about productivity. I love to paint (oils and watercolors), journal, add things to my smash book, and hoop. I feel most creative when I can bliss out and enjoy what I’m doing.

Did you have any nicknames as a child?
My full name is Michelle, and my dad always called me Shell-Shell. My friends called me M&M for a while, too! I’ve never had that many nicknames, though.

What are you currently reading? Would you recommend it (so far)?
I’m reading The New Rules of Marketing and PR, and if you are interested in any kind of online marketing, I definitely would recommend it! It’s not a fun non-fiction book, but I find this kind of thing really interesting. It has been the most useful book in figuring out which direction to go in for any online marketing project I have had.

Last thing you ordered from a restaurant:
Unaju! I love sushi and eel is my favorite.

Name one thing you want to do this summer that you haven’t yet:
The summer’s winding down for me, but I’ve been wanting to go to a large-scale hoop meetup.

And finally, tell us one random trivia fact about yourself:
I’ve been to Disney World over 15 times!

Isn’t she cool? Be sure to go say hi, and don’t forget to enter the group giveaway for a chance to win some ad space from Mia!
