NYC Midnight Short Story Challenge 2013

NYC Midnight Short Story Challenge 2013

Exciting news, folks! I’ve been taking part in the annual NYC Midnight Short Story Challenge for a few years now. If you’re not familiar with it, it’s a writing contest that consists of 3 rounds: the first round you have a week to write a short story, the 2nd round you have 3 days, and the 3rd round you have only 24 hours. The pool of contestants gets winnowed down each round, and I’ve never made it past the first round before (admittedly, I didn’t think my submissions were all that good before).

BUT. This year, I was assigned a great combo of genre-subject-character for my heat, and really felt good about my resulting story. And not only am I advancing to the next round, but I was #1 in my heat! Out of 32 people. So tonight at midnight myself, the other 4 advancees from my heat, and 120 other people find out our 2nd round assignments. Then we have 3 days to write a 2000-word short story, and hope we make it to the 3rd and final round. There’s some pretty serious prize packs at stake here, so I’m hoping my 2nd round story flows as smoothly as my 1st round.

Speaking of, if you want to take a gander at said story from the 1st round, it is here: Duet

Wish me luck? 😀

Any fellow fiction writers out there?
