Dressing Up a Basic Maxi

Today I’m sharing 3 ways to wear a solid-colored basic maxi dress. Maxi dresses are one of my favorite things to wear during the summer because they are SUPER comfortable, and there are lots out there with stripes and color blocking and prints. But sometimes a plain maxi is the easiest to just throw on and go. You can layer on different accessories to mix it up, and completely change the look of the outfit. Below are 3 ways to do so, using three different colored maxi dresses as the base:

Yeah, I’m indecisive on shoes, so sue me. Or just look at it as 3 different shoe options. 😀

I’ve worn look #1 and look #2 myself, though with different shoes I couldn’t find on Polyvore/online. And failing to take outfit shots, obviously. But I guarantee I’ll be wearing similar things again, so it may show up here in photos eventually.

What do you think? How would you dress up a basic maxi?

  1. Such great ideas! I love that those maxis are only $15 so you can actually afford to style them too. I saw someone pair a maxi dress the other day with a cropped jean jacket and a few pieces of jewelry and thought it looked perfect.

    1. Yeah, I was pumped when I found them for only $15 – that particular brand makes the softest things, too!

I don’t have a jean jacket, but I’ll have to try a different kind of structured jacket or blazer, I think that’d look cute – thanks for the idea!

  2. Great post! A maxi is such a summer staple, it’s fun to be able to jazz them up!
Thanks for linking up for Passion For Fashion!

    1. Thank you! It’s definitely one of my summer staples. Plus you can get away with wearing a dress without shaving your legs, haha – bonus!

  3. Love this! So happy you linked up to Passion for Fashion! I’m sharing this on my Facebook friend, xoxo

  4. I’ve never actually worn a maxi. Never tried one on, actually. I think they look so pretty on other people, but in the store, I feel like they always look as if they’ll be way too long on me.

    1. !!!!!!!!!

^ this is me in shock.

Next time you see one you like in the store, try it on – it just might surprise you! You can always hem it if you really need to.

    1. Yeah, it happens. That whole life thing can really get in the way of remembering/having time to take outfit photos, amiright? 😀
