What I Wore: 7 x 7 Remix Challenge

Today is something a little different and fun! I’m linking up with Audrey and Natalia for the 7×7 Remix Challenge. The idea is that you pick 7 pieces of clothing (shoes count, for this one), and can only use those items to make 7 different outfits (i.e. a week’s worth). Accessories don’t count, so jewelry, belts, scarves, and all that can be mixed and matched and piled on. It’s meant to help you get the most out of your closet, and look at the things you have in a new way. Here are the items I picked:

7x7 Remix Challenge

1. Navy tank top with white polka dots (LOFT)
2. Grey v-neck t-shirt with black dragon screen print (my shop)
3. Neutral tribal print t-shirt (Old Navy)
4. Olive skinny pants (Bianco Denim – Ideeli)
5. Wine maxi skirt (Victoria’s Secret)
6. Light denim wash skinny jeans (Victoria’s Secret)
7. Strappy, flat tan sandals (Blowfish Shoes)

And here are my outfits. Being the overachiever that I am, I came up with 9:

2 + 5 + 7. Fedora, purse, green leaf necklace, black leather bracelet, silver ring.

outfit2
1 + 6 + 7. Floral scarf as shawl, gold necklace, gold earrings, marble ring.
outfit3
5 + 7. Belt, long mixed metal necklace, bronze chain mail bracelet, sunglasses, bronze ring.
outfit8
3 + 4 + 7. Turquoise & silver necklace and ring, sunglasses.
outfit5
1 + 5 + 7. Neutral chevron scarf, top knot, bronze bracelet and ring.
outfit1
3 + 6 + 7. Fedora, coral necklace, silver ring.
outfit6
1 + 4 + 7. Tiger’s eye necklace, spiky bronze bracelet, bronze ring, sunglasses.
outfit7
2 + 6 + 7. Ponytail, red stone necklace, red beaded & bronze bracelet, silver rings.

outfit9
3 + 5 + 7. Black ruffle belt, tiger’s eye necklace, pewter ring.

I like some of these more than others, and a few surprised me. I hadn’t tried a maxi skirt as a dress before, and kind of love it. Also, I’m considering wearing that hat more. Overall, this challenge was a lot of fun, and definitely helped me think of new ways to style and mix items to get different outfits. There will likely be more of these types of posts in the future. It’s hot as balls here right now, so all of these are very much summer weather outfits. If I do this again in the fall or winter, I’m going to cheat and lump shoes in with accessories, so I can work an outerwear piece in.

What do you think? Have you ever done a remix challenge before? How many pieces did you work with? How did you like it?

    1. Nope, it’s mine! 😛 Haha. This challenge actually made me fall more in love with that skirt; no way I’m letting it go now!

    1. They are! This is the only one I’ve done, really, but it was loads of fun. And I’m making a mental note about the tallness… 🙂

  1. I LOVE THIS SO MUCH! Seven simple things and all those great outfits!!!!!! It doesn’t even look like you’re repeating pieces!!!!

    1. Thank you!!! It surprised me, I didn’t realize I could get such varied and interesting outfits out of just 7 pieces. An eye-opener for sure. And fun! 🙂

  2. Amanda! You are totally an overachiever 🙂 You really did amazing! I think my favorite look is the polka dot tank with olive pants.

  3. Such a cool challenge. I have been meaning to do this (just for myself) with my clothes because I really need to figure out some new ways to wear things

    1. It’s seriously so much fun! And I did the outfits and photos in about 1.5 hours, so it doesn’t take too long either. Definitely give it a try. 🙂

  4. I could barely get my seven put together, and you did nine, awesome! The maxi skirt is such a great addition, so many options!

    1. Thanks! 😀 The maxi was my fav piece of this challenge, I think. Thanks for co-hosting, I’ll definitely be doing this again if you guys do another one!

    1. Thanks!!! This is actually the first non-baseball hat I’ve owned. I just got it at an accessories swap last month, and hadn’t worn it out in public yet because I wasn’t convinced I was a ‘hat person.’ But I wore that outfit out this weekend, and had a random woman come up to me and ask me where I got the hat because it was fabulous. Confidence boosted! Haha. 🙂

  5. Hey there fellow over-achiever 😉 love your NINE outfits! Way to go. I also think its great how you made the maxi skirt a dress for one of the looks. I love double duty items.

    1. It’s actually a lot of fun, too, and definitely gives you some new ideas on how to wear things in your closet. 🙂

    1. Thanks!!! I have another mustard scarf that has polka dots that I tried first, but I thought the floral was a nice contrast instead.

    1. Right?! I’d never tried it before, either, but saw it on someone else’s blog and made a mental note. It definitely opens up new possibilities. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!

  6. I like the shoes you picked for the challenge! I seriously need a nice space to take pictures like you have – jealous 🙂

    1. Thank you! I had such a time trying to pick out one pair that would work with all of these. It was by far the hardest of the 7 pieces to pick out.

  7. Lovely outfits, all of the above! I want to try something like this, seems like it really sparks creativity 🙂

    1. Thanks!! And it really does. I think Natalia plans on hosting another one in a few months – I’ll definitely be doing it again.

  8. I try to remix items from my wardrobe regularly (calling it my take 5 challenge), but never a skirt as a dress – and I love it too. Well done on your combo’s and also such good choices of the 7 pieces.

Thanks for sharing with Wardrobe Wednesday!
