A few weeks ago, Vanessa contacted me about doing a themed outfit post. Specifically, the theme was to be ‘My Favorite Fairy Tale.’ I thought this was a fun idea (and good timing since I’m planning on reading Grimms’ Fairy Tales this month), so I signed up.
It was a no brainer to me which fairytale I was going to pick. Beauty and the Beast has always been my favorite. It’s not true love until he gives you a library, ladies! π But seriously, I’ve always loved the story. Having a leading lady who is smart and loves books was balm to my little bookworm soul growing up. So Belle was the clear choice for the fairytale fashionista I’d emulate.
Not having many grand balls to attend or capes to dash about in, I chose to go the route of modern casual. And since she had several pretty outfits in the Disney movie, I did a work-up for each.
Here’s what I came up with:
This was fun, but it was also harder than I thought given Belle’s penchant for monochromatic looks. Specifically I didn’t have a whole lot of blue or green in shades similar to her outfits. But I think I did pretty good! Naturally in the time since I did this photo shoot I thought of some other options that might have worked better, but oh well. Such is life.
Don’t forget to go check out the other ladies who participated!

What do you think? Which of Belle’s dresses is your favorite? What’s your favorite fairy tale?

What a fun theme and I LOVE the outfits you came up with! There’s really a huge variety here. That’s impressive because I tend to have kind of a “uniform” when dressing π
Mia
Thank you!! I think this theme stretched me a bit outside my normal uniform simply because I was trying to find things near the same color as Belle’s outfits, haha. And it always depends on my mood, too. Some days I just don’t feel like anything fussy.
What a fun challenge!
It really was! π Thanks for stopping by.
Belle and Cinderella are my two favorite princesses. I think Belle’s yellow ball gown is the best outfit, as well as the one you replicated best. Your yellow top is so cheerful.
Thanks! And I agree, I think that’s the replication that turned out the best.
What a cool idea! Love all your outfit interpretations! The blue & yellows are my favorite.
Thank you!! π
I like The Little Mermaid! That would have been hard to style! π
I think Belle’s yellow gown is my fave………..and your outfits are fun!!!
Haha, it depends how literal of an interpretation you went with. But thanks!! π
So cool! I love the looks for her yellow ballgown π
Thank you! π
What a fun idea! Your outfits really fit with the theme!! Impressive! Of course the ball gown is my favorite… The fancier the better when in a fairytale I say! haha. My favorite fairytale has always been Cinderella!
Thanks!! π The fanciness was definitely a challenge, since that wasn’t something I could really replicate. I think if I hadn’t done Belle, I would’ve done Aurora from Sleeping Beauty. Her woodsy outfit would’ve been fun.
Oh my goodness – how fun is this? I think I might have to do a princess styling session with my girls sometime soon.:)
Definitely do it! It was a lot of fun, especially as we all picked different fairytales. π
Belle!
I almost chose Belle for my look, she’s my favorite Disney Princess.
I love that you chose a lot of different looks and went with color as the theme.
=)
Thanks!! I pretty much had to rely on color, since I don’t have ball gowns and period dresses, haha.
Oh my goodness, how much fun is this? Love it!
Thanks!! It was a lot of fun. π
I love your looks. Such a clever interpretation of a classic tale. I also loved Belle growing up, mostly because I could relate to her love of books.
Thanks, lady! And thanks for hosting. π
Yeah, Belle’s love of books is what makes her my favorite, too. Bookworms unite!
What a cute post! I love all the Disney fairy-tale gals. I like you best in yellow and blue.
Thank you! π
I LOVE this!! What a great idea and your outfits are really lovely. My favorite was Belle’s “blue” phase.
Haha, her ‘blue phase’ – I love it! Sounds like Picasso’s Blue Period or something. So fancy. π But thank you!
What a cool idea, I think I would have to go with Belle’s classic yellow dress. I love your blazers for the blue look!
Thank you! I almost didn’t use them because it’s so hot here, but decided to since I was taking photos indoors.
Very lovely outfits!! I can definitely see the modern Belle look!
Aw, thank you! π
What a fun challenge! My favorite is Aladdin so I’d probably give the Jasmine look a try.
Ooh, that would be interesting to see modernized!
I’ve loved seeing everyone’s fabulous fairytale outfits, and yours are no exception! What an awesome set of looks π
Aw, thank you so much! π
How fun! This was such a cute idea… I love how you interpreted each look!
Thank you! It was a lot of fun. π
Oooo, I love Belle and I LOVE your outfits!!! So pretty. You really did a great job. π I had so much fun with this, hehe!
Thank you!! Your Esmerelda was spot-on, too. π
Beautiful — what a fabulous idea for a post! I love love love that you converted Belle’s looks to modern casual, and good observation about her primarily monochromatic looks. I think my fave is the first one, with the goldenrod jeans and the peacock scarf. What a fabulous modern interpretation! π
Aw, thanks Jen!! π
You did way better than I would have done!

Such a cool idea!! You did great at interpreting her looks! I can’t even pick a favorite!
Thanks for linking up for Passion For Fashion!
Thanks Lena! π
Love this and would love for you to share at my fashion link up that goes live at 8 am tomorrow http://myfashionforwardblog.com/all-things-pretty-16
Amanda, this is just adorable and clever! I love the idea of merging story with style. It’s quite inspiring and is a great idea for those us (points to myself) who have no since of style.
I recently picked up the complete collection of Grimm’s Fairy Tales and plan to read that soon. π
*sense (I got submit happy)
Thanks Aubrey! π It was definitely a fun challenge. Hope you’re doing well!
I love all the Belle-inspired outfits you put together! I always loved her burgundy/rose dress and cape — your two interpretations of it are pretty π
Cheers,
