Port Aransas

Photo-heavy post warning!

Last week we escaped down to Port Aransas on Mustang Island for a few days. It was a 4-hour drive from our place, which isn’t too bad, though some passengers disagreed:

There was a lot of rain on the way down, but it cleared up for a short while right when we arrived. We rented a cute little cottage, just a few blocks from the beach in one direction, and a few blocks from downtown in the other direction. Perfect location.

Our home for a few days. Cute, isn't it?

We had to make a blanket bed for Sienna because she kept sliding around on the tile.

Check-in wasn’t until 4pm, so our first day there was pretty short. We settled in, unpacked, took a quick walk down the beach until it started spitting rain again, then went out to dinner at a tasty Italian place.

The next day we woke up to this outside:

Great beach weather.

Right. Beach day so not happening. We decided to head out to Corpus Christi to see the aquarium. A lot of the larger exhibits were outside, so we still couldn’t see those due to monsoon rain, but there was still some neat stuff inside.

Driving was a bit stressful, with the rain coming down so hard, but it was a good outing. The rest of that grey day was spent watching TV, reading, and eating Mexican take-out.

Finally, the next day dawned bright and sunny and perfect for getting to the beach. Time to introduce the little snugget to the ocean! She loved it, jumping waves and racing across the beach.

After the beach we took a walk around downtown, picking up some souvenirs and eating ice cream. Then there was a nap, and fresh seafood at this tiny local place for dinner. The next morning we had to be out by 11am, so once we woke up we packed and got on the road back home.

It was the first vacation we’ve had in awhile that was just us, no extended family. And it was awesome we could find a dog-friendly rental place, so Sienna could come along. Port A is pretty small, so there’s not a whole lot to do when it rains, which was a bit of a bummer. But with TV and books we kept entertained, and the sun did eventually come out. All of the local places we ate were tasty. Overall, it was a good little getaway. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’d intended to do a What I Wore: Vacation Edition today, but, well… vacation happened and I got lazy. Sorry not sorry. ๐Ÿ˜€ Vacation-y photo montage will have to do instead. I mean, c’mon – cute puppy!

Have you been to the beach lately? What’s your favorite beachy place?
