- Video of the week: The Try Guys Get Photoshopped With Men’s Ideal Body Types to address body insecurities. Aw. I want to give these guys a hug.
- Can The Perfect Algorithm Brew The Perfect Beer?
- Don’t Panic, But Our Technology Now Defies Human Understanding.
- History tells us what may happen next with Brexit & Trump. And it’s not good. “Lead people to feel they have lost control of their country and destiny, people look for scapegoats, a charismatic leader captures the popular mood, and singles out that scapegoat. He talks in rhetoric that has no detail, and drums up anger and hatred. Soon the masses start to move as one, without any logic driving their actions, and the whole becomes unstoppable. That was Hitler, but it was also Mussolini, Stalin, Putin, Mugabe, and so many more.”
- Why Democrats and Republicans Literally Speak Different Languages.
- Expense Policies Are a Woman’s Problem.
- The First Lesson of Marriage 101: There Are No Soul Mates. This actually sounds like an awesome class.
- Thinking positive is a surprisingly risky maneuver. “Positive fantasies fool our minds into thinking that we’ve already achieved our goals – what psychologists call ‘mental attainment’. We achieve our goals virtually and thus feel less need to take action in the real world. As a result, we don’t do what it takes to actually succeed in achieving our goals. In multiple experiments, we found that people who positively fantasize about the future don’t, in fact, work as hard as those with more negative, questioning or factual thoughts, and this leaves them to struggle with poorer performance.”
Things of Note:
I was running on very little sleep last week, so not much to report (and also why there was no book post on Thursday – oops 😕). The only real things of note are that I got to play with indigo dye (super fun) and we’ve inched closer to solid vacation plans for September.
This week is all about work (calls, webinars, quotes) and preparing for my talk to the Austin indie authors group about book cover design. Luckily if I make it through the week I get to reward myself with dim sum, as the hubs and I have a Sunday brunch date.
What’s your week shaping up like? Easy going or chock full?
