Music can be very powerful to me, but it seems like most of this last year I kind of let slide my appreciation and exploration of it. So the last few weeks I’ve tried to focus on discovering a lot of new music/bands, and re-discovering some old goodies that I hadn’t listened to in awhile. I gravitate towards meaningful, well-written lyrics; good vocals, and beautiful piano or guitar melodies. I’m the type that when I hit a favorite song, it might be on repeat 6 times in a row (ok, maybe 6 is an understatement). I’m also apparently a sucker for sad songs – not entirely sure why that is, but I think it’s because ‘happy’ songs tend to veer towards the trite? Sad songs just seem to resonate as more honest & personal to me. And tend to have more passion. Passion for what you do is always attractive.
Regardless, my search turned up some gems, so I thought I’d share a few with you. These aren’t necessarily breaking-edge new songs in the music world by any stretch, or even new to me, just some favorites that I’ve had on repeat and love. ๐ Enjoy! Also, if you haven’t checked it out/signed up yet, go see the gift swap I’m organizing.
This Losing – The Airborne Toxic Event
The Airborne Toxic Event has put out two good albums, and their live shows are awesome, but where they really hook me is their acoustic videos. The one here is my favorite, but check out the whole series they did.
Tip of My Tongue – The Civil Wars
Shannon over at shannon*bear clued me in to this band, and I was instantly a huge fan. Beautiful voices combining in beautiful duets.
White Blank Page – Mumford & Sons
Samson – Regina Spektor
Accidental Babies – Damien Rice
Possibly the most beautiful and heartbreaking song I’ve come across. Seriously, it makes me tear up sometimes.
