2015 Shop Charities

2015 shop charities

Last year, one of the things I decided to do with my shops was donate a portion of proceeds to a different charity or cause each month. Over the course of 2014, between the shop proceeds and my own contributions, I donated around $400 to worthy causes. However, dividing that up between so many different groups meant each group didn’t really get that much. This year I’m changing it up. I’ll still be donating a portion of shop sales, but I’m going to do it quarterly instead of monthly. I’ve also decided to keep it local. So here are the four places I’ll be concentrating my efforts this year:

  1. 1st quarter (Jan-Mar): TreeFolks – focused on growing and maintaining urban forests in Central Texas for cleaner, cooler air and healthy communities.
  2. 2nd quarter (Apr-Jun): Austin Humane Society – Austin’s largest no-kill, non-profit pet shelter focused on saving homeless pets and reducing pet overpopulation.
  3. 3rd quarter (Jul-Sep): Sustainable Food Center – cultivates a healthy community by strengthening the local food system and improving access to nutritious, affordable food.
  4. 4th quarter (Oct-Dec): Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas – providing affordable healthcare and birth control, accurate sexual health information, and advocating on behalf of women and families.

These will be the beneficiaries from sales in both my screen printing shop and my digital shop. I’m hoping that moving to a quarterly setup will result in a bigger donation to each group. You can always find the current supported group in the welcome message on the shop’s home page. Of course, you can also donate directly to those groups, via their respective websites.

How are you planning to give back in 2015?

October Shop Charity

In case you missed it at the start of the year, one of the things I’ve decided to do with my shops this year is donate a portion of all sales to charities or causes that I support. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. That combined with the fact that I had a family member who dealt with breast cancer made this month’s shop cause a no brainer. The beneficiary for October is the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Breast cancer is a big problem for women in the United States: 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer […]

July Shop Charity

Greenpeace

In case you missed it at the start of the year, one of the things I’ve decided to do with my shops this year is donate a portion of all sales to charities or causes that I support. July is host to UV Safety Month and Parks & Recreation Month. Since those are all about the great outdoors, I’ve chosen Greenpeace to be this month’s beneficiary. They are the largest independent direct-action environmental organization in the world. You might know them from their fights to protect forests and oceans, and stop global warming. Greenpeace’s aim is to defend the natural […]

April Shop Charity

In case you missed it at the start of the year, one of the things I’ve decided to do with the shop this year is donate a portion of all sales to charities or causes that I support. April has a whole bunch of things going on, including World Health Day, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and STD Education & Awareness Month. To support all of those at once, this month’s charity is Planned Parenthood. You’ve probably heard of them, but if you didn’t know Planned Parenthood delivers vital reproductive health care and sex education to millions of people (not just […]

January Shop Charity

One of the new things I’ve decided to do with the shop this year is to donate a portion of all sales to charities or causes that I support. I’ve been considering doing so for awhile, and the new year seemed like the perfect time to start this new venture. A resolution, if you will, to put that little much more good out in the world. Each month will be a different charity or cause, and at the end of the month I’ll do the math on sales and donate 10% of the total. January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month, […]
