The Girl

Dragonflight Dreams is the brain child of graphic designer and generally creative person Amanda Guerassio (that’s me!).

I am a 33-year-old, full-time, work-from-home business owner living and loving in the wonderful Austin, TX (well, technically Round Rock, TX, but it’s like Austin’s northern suburb). This blog is an ongoing experiment for me, as I write about books, food, design, crafty projects, pretty things, Austin things, the process of screen printing and running an Etsy store, photo fun, travel, and anything else that pops up craft-wise or life-wise.

Things I love: my husband, my dog, my mom, my sisters, my friends here in ATX, dragons, flying, books (particularly fantasy and sci-fi), design, screenprinting, purple, WordPress, chocolate, my iPhone, my iMac, freelancing, comfy clothes, sweet tea, 80-degree weather, trying new recipes from cookbooks, the ocean, reading inspiring blogs by other crafty & creative folks, skinny jeans, red shoes, taking pictures, Project Runway, all sorts of crime dramas (Blacklist, NCIS, NCIS:LA, Elementary, Timeless, etc.), Mythbusters, vacations, empanadas, flowers, making things, hammocks…

For more random bits about me, see here, here, here, here, and here.

This is Ian, my other half who gave me the cool new last name. He’ll be mentioned fairly frequently, and may occasionally pop up in photos. If you’re curious, read the story of How We Met, how he proposed, and ogle some wedding pictures.

This is Sienna, our rambunctious lab-pitbull mix. She is almost 8 years old, and as full of energy as ever. If you’re curious, read A Dog Story to find out about how we got her.

About This Blog

Why the name?
As anyone who knows me can attest, I have a bit of a thing for dragons (<---- understatement) and a thing for the idea of flying and a habit of dreaming big. The name Dragonflight Dreams is a marriage of all three. Since the designs I'll be putting out for the shop portion will also tend to be of a whimsical and/or fantastical nature, it seemed doubly fitting.

What can you find here?

Book Posts: I do book reviews and also book-related round-ups or lists. I read all sorts of things, but book reviews here will mostly be of the science fiction, fantasy, historical fiction, or contemporary fiction variety. Also, I read a LOT more books than I do full reviews on, so if you want the full rundown of activity, find me on Goodreads. You can find these under the Books option in the menu at the top of the site.

Recipe Posts: I will occasionally share yummy recipes that I’ve tried out and love. Neither Ian or I are vegetarian or vegan or on any other sort of special diet, so recipes here can be almost anything. You can find these under the Recipes option in the menu at the top of the site.

Shop Talk: I run an Etsy shop of the same name, and post updates about new products and designs, and occasionally coupon codes for discounts. Related: My Process, and Thoughts on Inspiration. All posts about new designs/shop announcements can be found under the Shop Talk option. I also run a 2nd digital shop. You can also sign up for my shop newsletter to get updates directly to your inbox. Links to each shop and the shop talk posts can be found under Shop in the top menu.

Design Talk: I am a graphic designer by day, so I’ll occasionally feature recent design projects or design-related things. You can also check out my page of Design Services if you’re in the market for a designer. You can find both of these under the Design option in the menu at top.

Sporadic Series: Tuesday Treasure Trove, which is a link round-up of read-worthy and see-worthy things I’ve found around the internet; Etsy Round-Ups, which is a themed monthly collection of cool stuff I find on Etsy (handmade shout-out!); What I Wore, the remnant of my days as a style blogger; and Friday Favorites, where I randomly feature something I’m currently dubbing a favorite (a song, a color, a business, etc.).
