Tuesday Treasure Trove

- Cartoon of the week: It’s Going to Be Ok.
- Weird of the week: The Latest Trend Among Biohackers Is Implanting LED Lights Beneath Your Skin. Not at the Onion, this is a real thing.
- You Are Probably Pretty Self-Centered, But So Is Everyone Else. “No one is examining you as closely as you are.”
- This is about the time I chose not to die. A thoughtfully written piece about depression.
- Do you think people can separate the creator from the art? One author’s answer. I agree. There are authors whose personalities I love online (Twitter, blogs, etc.), but whose books I just didn’t enjoy. Which was surprising.
- Bloomingdale’s creepy “friend zone”: Male entitlement, rape culture and a dangerously stupid holiday ad. Ugh.
- Fresh Climate Data Confirms 2015 Is Unlike Any Other Year in Human History.
- Social media silence doesn’t equal apathy. “Adding to the worldwide conversation felt trivial, needless. Writing the standard “My thoughts are with Paris” or “ Hold your loved ones closer tonight” felt like understatements. Changing my photo to the French flag felt meaningless.” AGREED.
- Before you share it, Google it. Excellent advice, though presented with NSFW language.
- Let’s end on a feel-good note: This Dad Pushes His Daughter In Wheelchair Through All Her Marching Band Performances.
Things of Note:
Not much to say today. On a personal level, I had a pretty good weekend. Helped celebrate a good friend’s birthday over drinks and James Bond; went on a nice dinner date with the hubs; had plenty of time to curl up and read and watch some Netflix and soak up puppy cuddles. It was good.
The same cannot be said for other people around the world; particularly in Paris, but certainly not limited to there. I haven’t overtly said anything about recent events on social media, because what is there to say? I don’t have any earth-shattering ideas about how to prevent things like this in the future. It’s all been said, it’s all been hashed over. There is, so far, no good answer. I’m not so filled with hate I have to spew it online, nor do I really have any hope that situations like these are going away anytime soon. The locale changes, but can you at this point remember the last time we had a week go by without a bombing or public shooting somewhere in the world? Even if you restrict it to the US; I read a stat yesterday: we’ve had 319 days in 2015 so far, and 325 mass shootings. More than 1 per day. It’s a sad commentary on the state of humanity that this is our new normal.
*sigh* I don’t understand it, and I don’t have an answer.
Tell me something good that has happened to you recently.
What I Wore: April Flowers
If you get the reference in the caption above, we can be geek friends forever. 🙂 This is what I wore yesterday, for no other reason than I felt like wearing a dress. I scored this for all of $8 at Ross during a recent retail therapy session, and I am loving it. I...

Recipe: Sweet & Savory Mini Breakfast Pastries
This past weekend, the boy and I tried our hand at mini breakfast pastries - specifically, mini sausage rolls and fruit danishes. It was, without doubt, a rousing success. These things are YUMMY. So I thought I'd share the recipes for each today on the blog. 🙂 They...
TGIF
It has been a WEEK. And I'm not stressing the number of days, but just the sheer full busy-ness of it. I am tired. So much so that I completely forgot to put together a Friday Favorites post. So you get this instead: How cute is she? All curled up by my office chair....
Right Now
I am... absolutely loving the text mail notification service the post office now offers for my P.O. Box. No more wasted trips hoping for paychecks only to be disappointed by an empty box! still really tired, despite application of caffeine. I may have drunk too much...
Shop News
Prints of the new phoenix design hit the shop this past weekend! Take a look (more to come in the next few weeks): Fiery colors obviously work best with the theme of the design, but I kind of really want to do one in a blue-green. Could I get away with that, do you...
Tuesday Treasure Trove
A hilarious look at what happens when a 35 year old man retakes the SAT. I did good on this test the first time around, but certainly didn't enjoy it or ever want to take it again. I'm going to have to try this DIY Inkblot Artwork from Haley's blog. I KNEW all my...
