Tuesday Treasure Trove

- Tearjerker video of the week: Koko the gorilla weighs in on the climate change crisis.
- Unexpected video of the week: This is what KLM airline does with items left behind on their flights. I hope this is real.
- Cool new thing of the week: Brilliant Self-Cleaning Jeans And Tees Are Designed To Never Stink Or Stain. I need these.
- When Are You Really an Adult?
- Marriage Can Be Monstrous, or Wondrous: The Origins of “Beauty and the Beast”.
- Creative people’s brains really do work differently. “The creative genius is “occasionally crazier and yet adamantly saner than the average person.””
- Here’s How You’re Going To Die. Statistically, at least.
- Breastfeeding is overhyped, oversold, and overrated. “At first I didn’t believe it — or maybe I couldn’t understand it. Was I really the only person reading this stuff? How could the conventional wisdom surrounding breastfeeding be so far removed from what scientists actually knew?”
- Meet the Two Brothers Making Millions Off the Refugee Crisis in Scandinavia.
- An antidote to Islamophobia.
Things of Note:
We tried out the pasta rolling and cutting attachments on the KitchenAid this weekend, and you guys… I don’t know if I can ever go back. It took us a few tries, but the resulting fresh pasta was AMAZING. We ate it with some slow cooker bolognese sauce, and some fresh focaccia bread (also courtesy of the KitchenAid) and pretty much felt like cooking champions. We were probably insufferably smug about having successfully made pasta from scratch, but it was just us so whatever.
Other than that, not much news. I’m still trying to get legs under my new business; if you know someone with a creative or lifestyle business who needs design work, I’d appreciate a shout-out.
What’s new with you this week? Any exciting cooking (or other) adventures lately?
Tuesday Treasure Trove
Seriously considering this: Piano Adoption. And also just thrilled it exists. Critical is Sexy. I agree, wholeheartedly. Interesting read: Why do we hate seeing photos of ourselves? The Best Birth Control In The World Is For Men. This needs to get vetted by a medical...
Liebster What?
I have apparently been nominated for the Liebster Award, by both Mia and Manda (two fun ladies whose blogs you should check out, fyi). 'Liebster' means dearest in German, and the chain-letter-esque blog award is meant to showcase blogs with less than a certain amount...
All Things Shopping
I love online shopping. A lot. Almost more than I love in-store shopping at Target, if that gives you an appropriate sense of scale. But I have a few trips and other things I want to save up for, and so the time has come. I am going on a shopping hiatus. No more...
July Book Club Review
Earlier this month, I stumbled upon The Book Club run by MK, Kaylee, and Aubrey. Each month the members vote on a book to read, read the book, and then post up a review about it on the last Friday of the month. I thought this sounded like a fun idea, so I joined up....
Christmas in July
This past month I signed up for the Christmas in July gift swap hosted by the amazing Alyx. She paired me up with Noël for the swap, and let me just say, how appropriate is my swap partner's name for this? Haha. We traded emails and mailing addresses and vague gift...
Tuesday 10: Wishlist
Joining up with Paige and Lena for the Tuesday 10. This week's topic is a wishlist. Whether for Christmas or my birthday or just because or farther in the future, here are some things I'm wishing for: 1. A macro lens and telephoto lens for my camera, to supplement the...
Creative Ways to Stay Cool
This originally appeared as a guest post over on The Streeters Unlimited. via As you know, readers, I live in the great state of Texas. Texas is a lot of things, some good and some not so good. But one thing not up for debate is that Texas summers are HOT. 100+ degree...
