Tuesday Treasure Trove

- Question of the week: What Ever Happened To Waterbeds?
- The radical plan to destroy time zones. I’m… skeptical.
- Donate Your Old USB Drives to Fight North Korean Brainwashing. I’m legit considering sending some in.
- Why fruits and vegetables taste better in Europe. They really do! “The experts told me we can just as easily grow food in the United States that’s as delicious as — or more delicious than — the food you eat in Europe. It’s just that most of the time, we choose not to. […] American farmers put an emphasis on yield and durability, not flavor.” Stop it, farmers!
- How being awesome became the great imperative of our time.
- Sci-Fi is Realistic Fiction. “Dismissing science fiction as not being realistic fiction is often just a way of avoiding thinking about difficult topics.”
- Imagining Your Future Projects Is Holding You Back.
- Going Medieval. On the presence of people of color in Eurocentric medieval times. Hint: they were there!
- This Chart Shows Who Marries CEOs, Doctors, Chefs and Janitors. You plug in your career, and it shows you statistically the career of the person you’re likely to marry. Weird. And, at least for me, not accurate.
- Getting Married Is Not an Accomplishment. “Being popped the question is still more celebrated than academic and professional pursuits of women.”
Things of Note:
First off, if you are a fan of Pride & Prejudice, you must go see Pride & Prejudice & Zombies. Not just because it’s a surprisingly fun time, but also because Matt Smith (yes, the former Doctor) is hands-down the BEST Mr. Collins ever. Ever. I’m not even joking. Go, see it. (This was our Valentine’s Day movie date, and we both enjoyed it quite a bit).
Secondly, that thing I hinted at last week that I’m launching on my business blog? It’s up! It’s a new series called Storybook Romance, where I design faux wedding invitations for fairytale and literary couples. Part portfolio builder, part promo pieces, part pure paper & bookworm fun. See the first post here.

Sunday Confessions
1. I really want to meet more local bloggers (in person!), but there doesn't seem to really be a local blogger meetup, at least not of the lifestyle/non-professional blog kind. Which means I should probably just organize one myself if I want it to happen. But...
Friday Favorites: Aubergine
This originally appeared as a guest post over on Sandy a la Mode. Aubergine. Plum. Eggplant. Violet. Purple. Whatever you want to call it, this color has been a heavy hitter in fashion ever since ye old days when only royalty could afford it. Luckily you don't have to...
Book Review: The Fault in Our Stars
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green This is the book I read Tuesday evening instead of nervously watching election results trickle in. Because if I'm going to be emotional I might as well go all the way, you know? The Fault in Our Stars is the story of Hazel, an...
What I Wore: Mustard & Stripes
This is what I wore yesterday. Yes, it's still sunny and 80 degrees here - I know, I'm amazed, too. November! This is my perfect weather, though. Not too cold, not too hot, not dreary. If I could just freeze the weather line-up at this I would (with the occasional...
Tuesday 10: Lottery Winnings
Linking up with Lena for the Tuesday 10. This week's theme: If I won the lottery, the first 10 things I'd buy or do are: 1. Pay off all of my debt (credit cards, car loan, medical bills). 2. Give a big chunk of it to my mom. 4. Stick some in savings (some in...
Right Now
Right now, I am... trying to get rid of the hiccups I got from the root beer I drank with lunch. plotting ways to spend my evenings, since Ian is working late shift this week. getting ready to go to the post office to mail out a clothing swap and a custom print....
Sunday Confessions
1. I don't really get the deal with holiday decorations. A Christmas tree, ok, yes, I subscribe to that tradition and like it. Maybe even some lights outside if I'm feeling really motivated. But covering the entire house and trees and roof? Big, inflatable,...
