Time for another Etsy round-up! A new year means a new Pantone Color of the Year, and this year’s pick – marsala – is MUCH better than last year’s. Marsala is actually pretty, and doesn’t hurt the eyes. Also, January tends to be the coldest month here in Austin, and I am already tired of it. I’m dreaming of tropical beaches and 80-degree weather. The second collection down below has colors that remind me of that.
Orange Color Wheel Tier: Secondary. Tonal Value: Warm. Complementary Color: Blue. It’s association with good flavor and aromas is while orange is commonly used as a food coloring agent (think your nacho cheese Doritos). Orange things like tigers and lilies and saffron have given it an association with exotic things. And we’re all familiar with the overwhelmingly orange Halloween decor, and orange construction signs and cones. But this time of year, it’s hard not to appreciate the color, with pumpkin-spice everything, and leaves starting to change color. I’ll be the first to admit that orange is not one of my […]
Now that the craft show is past, I’ve been attending to a lot of the other to-do list items for my shop. First up, I’m finally getting photos of the made-to-order shirts on an actual person! Witness: Yeah, that’s just me wearing them. I never know what to do with my arms. I only have photos of the size mediums I had printed so far (note to self: always print a size medium for the example shots for made-to-order shirts), but I’ll get to the rest slowly and surely. Also, I did a big inventory and sorting of all of […]

If you’ve ever had an in-depth conversation with a designer, you’ve probably been bombarded by letter combinations like CMYK, RGB, DPI, and odd terms like bleeds and spot colors. We designers throw these terms around all the time, maybe without realizing that not everyone lives and breathes these things like we do. I’m going to start with decoding just a few basics in this post, namely the acronyms pertaining to color profiles. They are: CMYK, RGB, and PMS. CMYK Cyan Magenta Yellow Key (black): also called process color or 4-color. This is the color setup used by all professional printers […]
Well, the day has come. I never thought it would, but it has. I actually like a shade of yellow. Not just tolerate-like, but actively, enthusiastically-like. Mustard yellow is now a prominent color in my wardrobe. You can see me sporting it here, and I know I’ve worn it at least twice since then, too (with some of the items in the mix-up below, even). It’s a great color to mix-and-match with, and a very autumn-appropriate color. So I thought I’d share a few of my favorite pieces in this dusky gold hue: Mustard by dragonflight-dreams For the record, […]
You guys probably know by now that I don’t paint my fingernails. But my toenails? Always painted. And I’ve been slowly growing my collection of nail polish colors (I only had 4 for the longest time – pearl white, pale pink, copper, and a dark maroon). So this past month I participated in my first ever nail polish swap, organized by the lovelies Rachel and Carly. We each filled out a little survey about our nail polish tastes, and then they paired us up to get swapping. The idea was to send two nail polishes to your swap partner that […]
