Friday Favorites: The Staves

Meet The Staves. This is one of my new favorite bands – beautiful voices and harmonies. They opened for The Civil Wars at the show I went to here in Austin, and I was instantly hooked. Now, normally, all-girl bands aren’t my thing. I tend towards more of the sensitive-guy-crooning-with-guitar/piano types when I’m looking for ear candy. But this is just so good. I’m anxiously awaiting a full album release, because the 3 songs on the EP can only be on repeat so many times. 🙂 Have a listen:

The Phoenix Design (for real this time)

Long-time readers may remember me mentioning the new phoenix design I’d come up with back in November, which I then promptly became unsatisfied with and put on a back burner. I tinkered with it off and on the past few months, never quite getting it to where I wanted. But, after this past weekend, I am happy to announce that I have FINALLY gotten the new phoenix design squared away. For real this time. No take-backs.   Now all that remains is for me to make the screen, and you’ll be seeing this design hit the shop. 🙂

Happy Love Day! Vday Round-up

Why should Valentine’s Day be just about lovers/significant others? This Vday I thought it’d be fun to show some appreciation for fellow bloggers & crafters while at the same time supporting the handmade community, so I came up with the Be My Valentine Gift Swap. You can read about it here, but basically everyone who signed up had to create an Etsy treasury with items under $20 they’d like to receive, and their swap partner picked one to send to them for Vday. Everyone seemed to have a lot of fun with it, and I certainly plan on hosting it […]

Book Review: The Historian

The Historian

The Historian By Elizabeth Kostova This is a book I’d never heard of before coming across it on Goodreads Bookswap, which is a shame, because it’s a gem. Most of the vampire stories that have come out recently have been along the lines of Twilight – at the most basic, a human falling in love with a vampire. And that’s fine, those can be entertaining and enjoyable. But they do get a bit old after a few. The Historian, quite refreshingly, did NOT follow that vein. It is an investigative journey spanning decades, delving into the root and history of […]

Friday Favorites: ModCloth

ModCloth

I’ve been a fan of ModCloth for quite awhile now (as evidenced by frequent appearance of their items in my outfit posts), so I am very excited to announce that I’ve been selected as a 2012 Style Ambassador for ModCloth! In other words, I’ll be part of their stylist street team. 🙂 What does that mean? Aside from telling people how awesome their site is (which I already do), I’ll be giving feedback on new site features, the user experience, customer care, and upcoming promotions. The perks? Exclusive access to contests, news, and prizes, and the possibility of being featured on […]
